From delivering contraband to secure environments, disrupting commercial air travel, and damaging firefighting aircraft, crimes involving the use of UAVs are evolving. Drones may be equipped with payloads that enable GPS or WiFi-spoofing or signal jamming, allowing the disruption or compromise of networks. Flying into restricted areas, drawing attention to the UAV intentionally, and triggering an alarm allows the operator to conduct penetration testing and benchmark the speed and type of response that an incursion evokes. The use of drones in war has proven effective in Ukraine. For less than the cost of a new flagship phone, a drone operator can destroy a multi-million dollar aircraft or launch an attack against unsuspecting citizens at an outdoor event.
